Last night (well this morning really - between 7 and 9 AM) I had my first real encounter with lucid dreaming. I've had a few touches here and there, but never anything substantial.
Lucid dreaming is knowing that you're dreaming, and taking control of your dream. It is your area, you can do whatever you want. It can often be triggered by recurring dreams or something being "wrong". Something that makes you realize that you aren't awake. From here, you can do whatever you want; try flying, change the circumstances, make the love of your life propose to you, the choices are endless.
Anyway, I've tried lucid dreaming in the past, but never really got anything good out of it. Usually I'll be able to notice that I'm dreaming, but not really do anything about it. This time, I was having a dream that I was back in high school (a recurring topic for me, due to unsolved issues) only everything was COMPLETELY different: a wing of the school was turned into a mall-like area. That's when I (literally) said to myself "Hey! I'm dreaming!" at this point I decided it would be a good idea to fly.
So I leaped into the air and started gliding. This didn't last long, though, as I started feeling very heavy and got "pulled" into another dream, where I didn't exactly realize I was dreaming. (I kind of did, but not fully.) I think I might have leaped into it with too much enthusiasm because I got so excited. From what I've read about lucid dreaming, most people usually wake up at that point. (I also remember thinking "I'm glad I didn't wake up.") It's the most conscious I've ever been while sleeping. (Cause that doesn't sound weird, nope.)
I hope this happens again, because it was a very empowering experience. I'm glad I had it; though I wish I was able to keep it a bit longer and maybe work out my school issue rather than have just had fun with it. I did, however, get to remember every dream I had during that session very vividly. (I had one a different one before and after it.) So I got to write down my feelings about everything clearly in my dream journal. I realized what my issues are with school, and why I keep having repeating dreams about it. Which is actually a really good thing.
Blessings,
Skye

This is cool. I'm a writer and I have a very wild imagination. I started having lucid dreams at a very young age, at first at was very confused because I thought they were real. Maybe because I wanted them to be, specially when it involved me flying. Today, I meditate. And I tried to focus before I go to bed, putting all my intend on what I want to dream about. It doesn't always work, but when it does woooohoooo! Magaly is flying again ;)
Speaking of meditation, I had meditated just before I went to bed. It's usually the only chance I get to because the only place I have for it it my bedroom, and if my boyfriend's awake then I'm outta luck.
I'll have to keep track of when I meditate and the dreams I have corresponding to them to see if there's a connection.
Blessings,
Skye
